Summer View from Castle Hill Light

Castle Hill Lighthouse

Summer View from Castle Hill Light: I used to work in Newport, RI and loved this lighthouse. I drove there over lunch and snapped a bunch of photos of it to use as reference for this painting. This is actually the third illustration produced from the reference photos I took there 6 years ago.

This is the original painting of the Castle Hill Lighthouse. The painting has the lighthouse and foreground painted on clear acrylic using acrylic paint. The background sky and ocean are painted on upholstery fabric and you can see the pattern from the fabric coming through. The clear acrylic is placed over the fabric to make the full composition of the lighthouse with the ocean behind it – it is varnished with a gloss varnish to seal the paint. These two pieces are fused together with the handmade and hand-painted poplar frame. The frame is painted a cream color and dry brushed with with some oranges and browns to really pull in the cut stone of the lighthouse.

The painting measures 9.875″x13.75″ and it is wired and ready to shine in a new forever home. Links to the original and prints on my Etsy shop are below.
