The Cat in the Hat – As so many are, I am a big fan of Dr. Seuss and I loved the Cat in the Hat as a kid. One of my earliest memories of creating a drawing of something that was “good,” was when I was in 1st grade and I drew the Cat. My teacher was thoroughly impressed. More recent memories, of course, are of me reading the rhyming tale to my own kids who absolutely loved the book. I painted this in homage to these fond memories.
This is a fun take on the character as I try to capture him as a realistic tuxedo cat sitting inside the famous hat with his cat toys, Thing 1 and Thing 2, in front of him.
The painting is acrylics on stretched upholstery fabric and measures 15.5”x16.5” in my handcrafted frame.
