Winter Cardinal – Challenges abound in this painting! It is actually painted on fabric from someone’s discarded couch. The fabric was extremely thick and despite numerous times sanding it after applying gesso, it was still like painting on sandpaper. But with that said, I love the swirling pattern that pairs perfectly with a whipping winter wind.
This painting is an acrylic painting on stretched upholstery fabric. It measures 11″x20″ and is framed in a handmade and hand-painted poplar frame that measures 13″x22″. It’s painted a dark walnut with the inner bevel painted in varying shades of white that match the snow on the branches.
